Budget Day

Tomorrow is Budget Day at the City of Waterloo. As the Finance and Strategic Planning Chair, and starting from 1 p.m., I’ll be leading Council through its department-by-department consideration of the budget. You can find the details of the proposed budget online.

We spent considerable effort over the last year to make it even easier for the public to understand our complex budget process. We added a summary of the proposed spending so you can see how much is being invested in each category of public services, including roads, parks, culture, and facilities. We also highlighted how much we are investing in maintaining current services, in supporting growth, and in adding new services. This way, you can see at a glance how the City of Waterloo is investing public money, and then dive into each and every detail. Each department also identified their priorities for the year through detailed department business plans, which were linked to operating and capital budget requests.

I encourage you to attend on Monday in Council Chambers, or tune in live over our website.

And if there are items you would like to see us work on over the next four years, our strategic planning process has begun, and the strategic plan will drive the 2016-2018 budget process. Please read more about the planning process and submit your feedback online. I and all of Council would appreciate hearing from you and your neighbours.
